Isochronic tones utilise a single train of pulses to entrain the brain. These pulses are heard by both ears at the same time, so there is no third tone, as with the Binaural Beat.

Isochronic Pulses being heard
The pulses themselves are pulsed at a particular frequency, producing the brain entrainment. The main differences with Binaural Beats are:
  • They can be used with speakers as well as headphones (good for group work)
  • They have more power in the signal, but that doesn't mean that they are more powerful!
  • They are alot less subtle than Binaural Beats, and can be abrasive at high volumes
  • You can't have multiple entrainment frequencies, as interference can easily occur
